This is how you prepare your dog so that everything goes perfectly
Taking your dog to their first grooming session can be exciting… or a complete disaster if not done right. Many dogs aren’t used to being handled, having their nails trimmed, or being bathed with a hairdryer, so the first experience is key. Improper handling can lead to fear and aversion to grooming.
Pero con una preparación adecuada (y un groomer paciente, como nosotros 😉), esa primera cita puede ser el comienzo de una rutina positiva, saludable y sin estrés.
Start at home with familiarization
🐾 Here’s the thing: Many dogs aren’t used to being touched in certain areas: paws, ears, tail. That’s why they get restless or resist.
✅ What to do:
- Gently caress her entire body for a few minutes each day.
- Touch its paws, its nails, behind its ears.
- Use a soft brush to simulate grooming.
- Reward after each session: prizes, caresses, cheerful words.
This helps your dog understand that prolonged physical contact is not a threat.
Exercise before grooming
🐕🦺 If he arrives with excess energy, he may be more restless or nervous.
✅ What to do:
Take him for a walk or playtime 30 to 60 minutes before the appointment. Exercise relieves anxiety and improves his behavior during grooming.
Avoid feeding it right before
A full stomach + manipulation = discomfort, nausea, or vomiting.
✅ Recommendation:
Give her her meal at least 2 hours before the appointment.
If you’d like, have a small snack on hand for after the service.
Stay calm too
Dogs sense our emotions. If you’re tense, they will be too.
✅ Tip:
Speak in a soft tone, avoid rushing or scolding before handing your pet over to the groomer.
Your attitude makes all the difference.
Choose a groomer who knows how to handle first-time dogs.
